Jamaal Lascelles has enjoyed a fantastic season with Newcastle United this season since being handing the armband, helping the Magpies surge to the top end of the Championship and look in good form to earn an immediate return to the Premier League.
Naturally, Lascelles form has attracted interest from the bigger sides within English football and Liverpool were said to have sent scouts to watch the defender in action, as reported by The Shields Gazette.
Interest from Jurgen Klopp’s side will certainly cause concern amongst Newcastle supporters but manager Rafael Benitez has played down the chances of a sale next month, stating Lascelles is perfectly happy on Tyneside when speaking to The Northern Echo.
“I saw the links about Jamaal, but I have been talking with him and with more people around him. He’s happy, he’s OK and we think that he’s a good player for us, so I don’t see any big change in January around him, or anyone really.”
There is still work to do for Newcastle if they are to return to the top-flight but they have the talent available within their squad, whilst keeping Lascelles at St James’ Park will certainly bolster their chances.
