According to L'Equipe, Newcastle United are in talks with Lyon over a deal for teenage forward Myziane Maolida, who could cost the Magpies in the region of £7m.

What's the story?

Newcastle secured the signing of Yoshinori Muto from Mainz 05 on Thursday, with the Japan international penning a four-year contract with the Premier League outfit.

The Magpies are still believed to be in talks with West Bromwich Albion over a move for Salomon Rondon, although that particular deal could well fall through.

There remains speculation surrounding the future of Dwight Gayle, whilst Aleksandar Mitrovic has joined Fulham on a permanent transfer, meaning that Newcastle's attack is undergoing a bit of cosmetic surgery ahead of the new season.

According to L'Equipe, Rafael Benitez's side are now in talks with Lyon over a deal for Maolida, who is also believed to be interesting Real Betis and Sevilla.

Who is Myziane Maolida?

The 19-year-old came through the youth system at Lyon, and made 22 appearances in all competitions for the French club's first team last season - scoring three times.

Thirteen of those appearances came in Ligue 1, whilst he also contributed one goal in six Europa League matches for Lyon during the 2017-18 campaign.

The 5ft 11in ace is comfortable through the middle in the centre-forward position, whilst he is also extremely capable of operating on either wing.

A record of nine goals in 19 appearances for France's Under-19 outfit is another indication of Maolida's talents, and he has the potential to develop into a real star.

As mentioned above, Newcastle could get the deal done for as little as £7m, and that would be an excellent price for a player who proved himself in a top European league last term.

The Magpies are finally making moves ahead of the closing of the transfer window on August 9, and the arrival of the talented teenager would be very exciting indeed.
