Danny Rose has said he pushed for the move to Newcastle as soon as he heard about it.

What's the story?

The England international completed a loan switch to St James' Park on January 30th, one day before transfer deadline day.

Speaking to Newcastle's official website after making the switch, he said: "Straight away I called my agent and said 'I want to go' and 'can you make it happen?"

Euro 2020 in his sights

With just 10 starts from 24 possible Premier League outings for Tottenham so far this term, the 29-year-old was clearly not a guaranteed first-choice in north London. As such, it made sense that he would look to make a move before the end of the transfer window.

At Newcastle, he is likely to pick up plenty of playing time, and that is down to a recent injury to Jetro Willems. The Netherlands international had made 19 Premier League appearances since making the move to St James' Park from Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany, but a cruciate ligament rupture meant that he is now out of the action for the foreseeable future. Incredibly unlucky for the 25-year-old, of course, but it should play perfectly into Rose's hands.

This is a big few months for plenty of English players - in the summer, the Three Lions will look to triumph at this year's European championships. Football can move very quickly, and a string of good performances could convince Gareth Southgate to include Rose in his 23-man squad for the tournament. Having previously picked up 29 caps, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that he could be included. For all involved, this short-term deal could be a win-win scenario.
