Aleksandar Mitrovic struggled to make an impression under Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez, and as a result was sent on loan to Fulham in February.
The transfer turned out to be a positive one for the player as he went from being a fringe player at St James’ Park to being a pivotal figure in the Cottagers’ promotion fight.
In 13 outings for Fulham, Mitrovic has scored 12 goals and created a single assist to help the club move up to third in the Championship table.
Islam Slimani was brought in on loan from Leicester City in January, but he has only featured four times and he could land himself in some trouble following this afternoon’s Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion.
It was a disappointing day all round for the Magpies as they suffered a 1-0 loss, and it was compounded by Slimani’s behaviour.
While in the box, the forward kicked out at West Brom’s Craig Dawson, and as the referee did not spot it at the time, the Newcastle striker could be hit with a retrospective ban.
Upon reflection, Newcastle fans feel that the club should have stuck by Mitrovic.

Well it must be Mitro’s attitude in training, cos not one of the forwards at our club are better than him #nufc

Just a thought: Mitrovic has more Premier League goals for #NUFC than Gayle, Joselu and Slimani combined. Yet Mitro is the 4th choice striker

Keeping Slimani would be a stupid waste of money. The lad has nowt that we don't already have in Mitro and even he isn't enough to match this apparent ambition the board shares with the team, manager & fans. #NUFC

Mitro is better than Slimani and Joselu #nufc

"Mitro's a liability, we need Slimani."
Mitro bangs in 13 goals in 13 games.
Slimani plays a game and a half and will probably be banned for the rest for the season.#NUFC 🤔

Slimani is as petulant as Mitrovic, but nowhere near as good. If we end up selling Mitro to bring in Slimani it'll be ridiculous. Thankfully, I can't see Rafa being stupid enough to bring him in full-time. #nufc
