Newcastle midfielder Mo Diame is loving his football this season, but says the international break came at the worst possible time for Magpies.

At the start of the season, Diame looked to be losing his place at Newcastle. Every now and again the 30 year-old would show signs of what made him so dangerous in the Championship, but he just was not consistent enough.

After an injury and loss of form for Mikel Merino, Diame has snatched his opportunity with both hands and reignited his relationship with the fans in the process.

Diame was fantastic in the 1-0 win over Manchester United, helping Jonjo Shelvey dominated United’s expensive midfield.

The 30 year-old Senegalese international has found the net twice this season, and says he is loving his form at the moment.

“When you’re in good form, you want to keep going, and the break can be a bad thing,” Diame said.

“It’s good to keep going and play game after game and training after training and keep the same attitude and the high fitness.

“I’m enjoying it a lot. It’s what I wanted since the beginning, but unfortunately, it couldn’t happen, so now I’m trying to enjoy it a lot better. I need to make sure that I stay at a high level.”

Newcastle fans will be hoping Diame is true to his word, with a massive clash coming up against Huddersfield. A win for Newcastle could move them just one point behind the top ten, and potentially seven points clear of the bottom three.
