Martin Dubravka insists he is very happy at Newcastle, but will be even happier if they can get some points.

The Slovakian stopper has lifted the lid on his start to life on Tyneside, which started brilliantly with a man of the match performance against Manchester United.

“I’m very happy with how things are going, that I can be here - and I will be happier when we take more points,” Dubravka told Chronicle Live.

“We need to look to the future and fight for every point. We are not in a good situation now, and we need to fight for it.”

The Magpies have two massive games to come this month, as they square off against fellow relegation candidates Southampton and Huddersfield Town.

Rafa Benitez’s side currently sit in 16th place, a point above Southampton in 17th and a point behind Huddersfield in 15th.

They welcome both teams to St. James’ Park this month, knowing six points would put a huge gap between them and their relegation rivals.

“We need to look to the future and fight for every point. We are not in a good situation now, and we need to fight for it,” said the 29 year-old Slovakian.

The Magpies lost 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday, but Dubravka insists they will fix their mistakes.

“These two games will be very important for us. We have to be very focused and we really hope we can take three points, especially at home.

“We have time now to analyse the things we did well and what we did badly [at Anfield]. We will prepare for the next game, and of course it will be a long time before we play the next game. We need to stay focused, and of course we have to look at a positive way.”

Newcastle have a three week break between the two contests to come, and will hope that extra rest can give them the boost they need to get six points. If Dubravka performs like he did on his home debut, things could be a lot cheerier on Tyneside this time next month.
