Galatasaray are looking into adding Cheick Tiote to their squad during the January transfer window, reports the Newcastle Chronicle.
Newcastle have managed to improve their form of late and find themselves with back-to-back wins after their dire start to the Premier League season.
However, it seems that Turkish giants, Galatasaray are targeting their Ivorian defensive midfielder Tiote and hope to link the ex-Twente midfielder with Lukas Podolski and Wesley Sneijder in Istanbul.
Steve McClaren is thought to have a good working relationship with Tiote and this may leave the Magpies boss reluctant to let one of his most experienced players leave, particularly with the club embroiled in the relegation battle.
Tiote has had injury troubles of late and the midfielder’s inconsistency in availability might lead the Newcastle board to question whether it is time to cash in on one of their big name players.
For a player once linked with Arsenal, Tiote’s career has hardly panned out how he would have hoped.
