FIVE deadline day deals Newcastle should snap up

There is a cautious sense of optimism following Newcastle United’s 2-0 Capital One Cup victory over Morecambe on Wednesday night.

It was a case of a banana skin avoided and the team notching up their first two goals of the campaign, which would have come as a huge relief to those supporting black and white.

In their opening two Premier League fixtures the Magpies have illustrated a frightening lack of goal threat and it is clear that whilst the fans may want the whole squad strengthening now is not the time to get greedy. Another striker is desperately needed.

If Kinnear exhausts all the contacts he has promised he has then the Newcastle supporters would want a winger to add an extra dimension and width. The fans realistically know though that in panic season at the end of August, any new offensive additions would be a bonus.

The defence too is clearly needing a sprinkling of competition to ensure that those in the first team don’t get complacent, especially at full back, but Mike Ashley is hardly notoriously for opening up his wallet for new signings.

It will be hard to convince the Sports Direct Owner that any signings are essential and pivotal to the success and failure at St James’s Park this season.

Alan Pardew would be delighted to have any of these players in this slideshow at his disposal though come September 3rd.
