Five fixtures that could define Newcastle’s season

After a final day escape, the sacking of John Carver and the arrival of Steve McClaren – it would be understandable if Newcastle fans had just a little more hope for the upcoming season.

And with the former Derby gaffer already looking to get started in the transfer market, with the likes of Brighton’s Lewis Dunk and West Ham’s Diafra Sakho being linked with the club – maybe St James’ Park will be rocking once again.

But with a tough opening game against Southampton, followed by a a third gameweek away trip to Manchester United, two Tyne-Wear derbies and a final game against Tottenham – it’s certainly not going to be an easy ride.

So, with that in mind, here are five HUGE dates for your diary…

Saturday 8th August 2015 – Newcastle v Southampton

Saturday 22nd August 2015 – Man United v Newcastle

Saturday 24th October 2015 РSunderland v Newcastle

Saturday 19th March 2016 – Newcastle v Sunderland

Sunday 15th May 2016 РNewcastle v Tottenham
