Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle has been named the PFA Fans’ Championship Player of the Month for October, securing the honour in a landslide victory.
The forward scored four goals in October, taking his season tally to eleven, as the Magpies won all of their matches in the month to move top of the table in the Championship and leave themselves odds-on for an immediate return to the Premier League.

With just under 12,000 votes cast, Gayle secured a staggering 9,042 – way ahead of second-placed Gary Hooper of Sheffield Wednesday, who earned 846.
Brighton forward Sam Baldock finished third, with Cardiff’s Peter Whittingham, QPR’s Massimo Luongo and Preston’s Paul Gallagher rounding off the top six.
Gayle faces added competition for his striking role at St James’ Park now that Aleksandar Mitrovic has found his form in recent weeks and Newcastle will be looking to benefit from the duo’s efforts in front of goal in their clash with Cardiff this weekend.
Having won six Championship matches in a row, Newcastle will want to extend that record ahead of next week’s international break and will be confident of more positive results in two weeks’ time, with games against Leeds and Blackburn on the horizon.
