Newcastle are on the hunt for a new right sided attacker this summer, so should they offer Florian Thauvin a chance at redemption?

Florian Thauvin has been superb at Marseille since leaving Newcastle in 2016, but Newcastle should try and tempt him to follow Mohamed Salah’s footsteps and redeem himself in the Premier League.

The first question is why on Earth would the Frenchman leave the Europa League finalists to return to a league where he quite simply flopped? A similar question was asked when Liverpool signed Salah, who has bagged a remarkable 44 goals this season.

Of course, Salah did not return to the same team as his first stint in England, but is the difference between Jose Mourinho and Jürgen Klopp really any bigger than the gap between Steve McClaren and Rafael Benitez?

Newcastle have finally got a manger capable of luring top-class talent to the club, and if Rafa can convince the infamous Mike Ashley to free up the funds, he should have no problem convincing the player to prove everyone wrong just like Salah has.

Thauvin has grabbed an incredible 37 goals in 73 league games for Marseille since leaving Tyneside, including 22 in 2017/18. He has also chipped in with 11 assists this season.

The former Newcastle midfielder has even been included in the national team squad for the World Cup and will be keen to show his value in the opening friendly in which the France vs Ireland betting odds have the home side as 1/6 on favourites.

Quincy Promes and Yacine Brahimi have both been linked with moves to the Magpies, and neither of them would be any cheaper than the 25 year-old Frenchman, so why not try their luck?

So, Newcastle fans, would you back a summer swoop to bring Thauvin back? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
