According to the Chronicle, Newcastle United are interested in signing Miguel Almiron.

The attacking midfielder, who currently plies his trade with Atlanta United, has been in scintillating form this season, racking up 13 goals and 13 assists in the MLS.

As per the aforementioned report, the 24-year-old’s agent was in attendance as the Magpies beat Bournemouth last time out. Whilst no formal negotiations have yet begun, the Tyneside giants are thought to be interested in bringing the 13-cap Paraguay international to the Premier League in January.

Rafa Bentiez’s side have struggled in the early stages of the season, and currently sit just above the relegation zone with only nine points on the board. If they are to avoid a relegation scrap then they must bolster their attacking options in January.

A move to sign Almiron - valued at £9m by Transfermarkt - may well be a gamble, but if he can translate his MLS form to English football then he could fire Newcastle to top-flight safety. Therefore, a bid to buy Almiron would be a risk worth taking.

What do you think, Newcastle fans - would you like to see Almiron at St James’ Park in January?
