HYS: Should Newcastle offer Giuseppe Rossi a Prem lifeline?

Former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi has been back in training under Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer and has even impressed Sir Alex Ferguson with his finishing skills – the Scotsman has been in regular attendance at Carrington in recent weeks.

The 31-year-old was once regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in both the Premier League and on the international stage – he has won 29 caps for Italy, scoring seven goals – but never quite reached his potential as his career devolved into an uninspiring loan cycle.

However, currently without a club after being released by Genoa last season, the hitman has been getting some shooting practice and fitness in as he looks for new employment.

Solsjkaer has said it’s unlikely that United themselves will take him on, although he did tell any suitors to be quick if they want to sign him – Fergie’s stamp of approval may mean he has a number of clubs battling for his signature.

Meanwhile, with Salomon Rondon the only real fit and scoring striker at St James’ Park, the big Venezuelan could do with the burden of goals being slightly lifted off his shoulders and, with Rafa Benitez unlikely to be backed as he would like in the transfer market, signing a free agent might not be the worst idea for Newcastle.

The New Jersey-born forward has racked up 127 career goals in 335 appearances so it’s clear he can find the net – what do you think, Newcastle fans? Would you like to sign Giuseppe Rossi this month? Let us know in the poll below…
