Newcastle are once again being linked to Bournemouth striker Josh King, so should the Magpies make a move for the Norwegian this summer?
Rafael Benitez is a long-term admirer of Bournemouth striker King, and the 26 year-old says he is open to leaving the Cherries this summer.
Newcastle are in desperate need of some more firepower up front, as Aleksandar Mitrovic seems destined to leave, Islam Slimani just wasn’t good enough, and Dwight Gayle has been unable to replicate his Championship form in the top tier.
“I do not like to blame anything, but I have to say that I was surprised that I returned in pre-season and was switched to a deeper position than I did so well in the year before,” the pacey striker said.
King had what seemed like a breakout season in 2016-17, grabbing 16 Premier League goals for the Cherries, but was used as more of a number ten this year, bagging just eight goals from the attacking midfield spot.
“I started one match as the spearhead this year. I am 110 per cent unhappy with the change in position. I am not satisfied and my coach knows. I think most people know where I am the best.
“I have three years left on my contract and I am a Bournemouth player now, but in football you never know.”
King’s comments certainly sound like those of a man who is itching to prove his 16-goal haul wasn’t a one off, and Benitez’s vote of confidence could push him one step further to a 20-goal season.
So, Newcastle fans, do you think you should swoop for King? Is he any better than what you already have? Let us know by voting in the poll below…
