Newcastle are interested in both Alassane Plea and Salomon Rondon, but which striker target should the Magpies sign?

Newcastle are in desperate need of a marquee striker signing this summer to fire them up the table.

The Magpies are set to offload Aleksandar Mitrovic, and neither of Dwight Gayle or Joselu can really carry the goalscoring load in the Premier League.

Fans were all over the links to Nice striker Plea earlier this week, as reports claim the Magpies have joined West Ham in bidding for the striker.

Plea scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, and has the pace and clinical finishing that fans will just love. Basically, he’s Dwight Gayle 2.0.

The Chronicle also report that Benitez could move for Rondon though, who has been linked with a move to Tyneside repeatedly since West Brom were relegated.

The Venezuelan front man is more the type of striker Rafael Benitez usually opts for, and if he could re-find his form on Tyneside he could be an upgrade on Mitrovic.

However, although the report claims Rondon will be available for just £16.5m, spending the extra cash to get Plea would be a huge upgrade.

The Frenchman is faster, has better link-up play, performed fantastically in the Europa League last season, and most of all he would inspire fans a lot more than the signing of a relegated Baggie.

In an ideal world, the Magpies should offload both Mitrovic and Gayle and sign both targets, but that seems fairly unlikely given the club's spending in recent windows.
