We are now ten games into the Premier League season and Newcastle United’s start to the campaign could not have gone much worse. With just three points on the board and six goals to their name they sit 19th in the table.
The Magpies have had huge trouble scoring goals this season and may well reflect upon poor summer business as being the cause of the drought. Both Dwight Gayle and Aleksandar Mitrovic left St James’ Park in the transfer window and have since scored 13 goals between them for their new teams.
Meanwhile, Newcastle’s own strikers – Joselu, Ayoze Perez and summer arrivals Yoshinori Muto and Salomon Rondon – have collectively mustered just three league goals.
Rafa Benitez must get his frontline firing on all cylinders soon or he risks seeing his side becoming cut adrift at the foot of the table.
With a tough fixture against an in-form Watford on the horizon, whoever Benitez picks to lead the line for the Magpies will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders. So far this season, Joselu has looked to be the striker most capable of delivering in such circumstances.
What do you think, Newcastle fans – who should start up front against the Hornets?
