Newcastle United had problems up front last season, with Joselu and Dwight Gayle struggling to find the back of the net.

In order to solve that issue, manager Rafael Benitez offloaded Gayle to West Bromwich Albion on loan and signed Salomon Rondon from the Baggies on a temporary deal.

Since the season kicked off, Newcastle are yet to show much of a threat upfront having scored once in their last two fixtures.

Joselu struck in a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, and none of the Magpies' players managed to find the back of the net in a goalless stalemate against Cardiff City.

Gayle, though, got off the mark last weekend as he scored for West Brom in a 7-1 thumping over Queens Park Rangers.

Last season, the forward netted just six times in 35 Premier League matches, which was a stark contrast to his Championship form.

The attacker found the back of the net 23 times to help send the North-East outfit to the top flight.

Perhaps it is too early to tell, but did Newcastle act too hastily in getting rid of Gayle?
