In Focus: Ings would add much needed danger to Newcastle attack

As reported by the Evening Chronicle, Newcastle United are interested in signing Liverpool striker Danny Ings in the next month’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

The Magpies have had mixed fortunes in the English Premier League this season, with one of their key failings being in attack.

The likes of Joselu and Aleksandar Mitrovic have failed to get the job done in the top-flight and freshening up striking options should be a key priority for manager Rafa Benitez.

One man he is reported to be interested in is Danny Ings.

That’s according to the Evening Chronicle, who say that Benitez has held talks with Liverpool about a potential loan move for the striker in January.

However, the Spaniard will wait to assess the fitness of the £7.2m-rated Liverpool man, according to the report.

Is he the right man to add goals to this Newcastle team?

Fitness issues?

Danny Ings has only recently returned to first-team action for the Reds after debilitating injury problems that have plagued his career at Anfield since making the switch from Burnley.

He’s featured twice from the bench in recent Premier League matches and appears to be on his way back to full fitness.

Injury-free and on form, he’s a proven goalscorer and one which can enhance this Newcastle side. He reached double figures for Burnley in the top-flight in 2014/15 and started his Liverpool career with a couple of goals before his injury issues.

A loan move would be relatively risk-free for Newcastle and with resources stretched, he’s also a cheap but effective option to make the Magpies more dangerous in the final third.
