The Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has said that there is a 'very good chance' Jetro Willems will be back at Newcastle United next season.

The defender ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament against Chelsea on Saturday and will now miss the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign.

Willems took to social media on Monday to announce that he would indeed be out for the season but dropped a huge hint that he would be joining the Magpies on a permanent deal this summer.

The 25-year-old has been on loan at St James' Park from Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, making 20 appearances for Steve Bruce's side in all competitions.

As it stands, there has been no official announcement from either Newcastle or Frankfurt when it comes to the plans for the Dutchman this summer.

However, according to Edwards, there is a 'very good chance' that the full-back will be back at the club next season.

Newcastle, meanwhile, are believed to be on the verge of securing a deal for this former Premier League midfielder.
