On Monday morning, The Guardian reported that Newcastle United were considering a move for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Glenn Murray.
Indeed, the 36-year-old, who is out of contract this summer, is wanted on loan this month having struggled for football this season.
The Guardian claimed that Newcastle, alongside Aston Villa, were considering the possibility of moving for the experienced forward before the end of the January transfer window.

However, The Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder has insisted that the Magpies have not made a move.
Murray’s record this season is not exactly brilliant, managing just one goal in 14 appearances in all competitions for Graham Potter’s side.
However, it is certainly worth remembering that the former non-league forward scored 13 Premier League goals for the Seagulls last season, whilst he has 36 in total in the top division having previously spent time with Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.
On Monday morning, it appeared that Newcastle were in the race, but Ryder was quick to pour cold water on the rumours. The journalist’s post on social media can be seen below:
Newcastle have not made any approach for Glenn Murray. #nufc

Of course, that doesn’t mean Newcastle won’t make a move in the coming days, but certainly at the moment the Murray link appears to be speculation alone.
