Loads of Newcastle fans are freaking out on Twitter, after the Bin Zayed group released a statement regarding their takeover attempt of the Magpies.

The Toon Army expected to spend the first month of the hectic summer period stressing over Rafael Benitez’s future, but The Sun scuppered those plans when they claimed earlier this week that Mike Ashley had agreed to sell the club.

That report that the deal is done seems to have jumped the gun, but the interest from Sheikh Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nehayan is genuine, and his group have now released a statement to certain media outlets.

As reported by Lee Ryder of The Evening Chronicle, the group’s managing director, Midhat Kidwai, said: “Terms have been agreed between us and Mike Ashley; these terms have been reflected in a document, signed by both parties, which has been forwarded to the Premier League.

"The proof of funds statement was forwarded to Mike Ashley’s lawyers on 17 April 2019.

"The so called fit-and-proper Premier League process is a standard procedure which will take time, and we are doing all we can to assist the Premier League during this process.

"We feel the need to clarify this point in order for the fans and the general public to understand the timelines."

While the silence from the club itself is concerning to those who believe this is all simply another Ashley smokescreen, most fans are going crazy over the statement.

Ryder posted the best part of the comments on Twitter, and the reaction from Tyneside is one of pure jubilation.
