Liverpool outcast in shock Newcastle transfer talks… Reds willing to subsidize move

Newcastle are in talks with Liverpool’s Jose Enrique about a shock return to St James’ Park, according to reports from The Mirror.

The Spaniard starred for the Magpies between 2007 and 2011, before leaving for Anfield, taking a swipe at the club’s transfer policy in the process.

And after making a solid start to life on Merseyside the 30-year-old has slowly slipped down the pecking order, to the point now that he’s only just been welcomed back into the first-team set-up after an almost year-long spell in the wilderness at the club.

Reports claim that Newcastle have entered talks with the player, who could solve their need to sign a left-sided defender to help ease relegation feats on Tyneside, to bring him back.

Enrique wants his £65,000-per-week wages paid in full for the entirety of a short-term switch to Newcastle, and Liverpool are understood to be willing to pay a chunk of his salary to get him out of the exit door, with the emergence of Brad Smith having all but ended his hopes of game time.
