According to Eurosport journalist Manu Lonjon on Twitter, Newcastle have regularly been watching Moses Simon this season.
The 24-year-old is currently on loan at Nantes in Ligue 1 from Spanish club Levante. It is being said that the French outfit want to exercise their purchase option of €5m (£4.2m), but there are a number of clubs interested.
Nantes va lever l’OA pour Simon Moses (5M) . Elle aurait été automatique bientôt.
L’excellente saison de l’attaquant attire les regards. Newcastle, le Hertha Berlin et l’OL surpervisent régulièrement le joueur. Sa valeur aujourd’hui oscillerait autour de 17/18M . Belle bascule.

Hertha Berlin and Olympique Lyonnais are also mentioned as having scouted the winger, who is said to be now worth €17m-18m (£14.4m-£15.2m)
Simon clearly has something about him. After all, he is a former Liverpool target, as per The Liverpool Echo, and he has managed four goals and five assists in the French top tier so far this campaign. Not only that, he also has 30 caps for his country, Nigeria, as well.
However, it is worth questioning what exactly he would bring to St James’ Park considering they already have Allan Saint-Maximin at their disposal. The 22-year-old only joined the club from Nice last summer and, although he has just one goal and one assist so far in the Premier League, he has proven himself to be an exciting prospect – he has 4.4 dribbles per match in England’s top division, whilst he scored a stunning goal just this week against Oxford in the FA Cup fourth-round replay. He still needs time to adapt, but he looks like he could be a star in the future – just ask Clinton Morrison (BBC Radio 5 Live via The Chronicle)
What the Magpies need is a striker. Joelinton, their record signing, has managed just one goal in 25 league appearances, whilst Andy Carroll is yet to net since returning to the club on a free transfer last summer. They tried to sign Olivier Giroud last month, but the France international did not want to move to the north east – however, that is the kind of player they should be targeting. No disrespect to Simon, but he just isn’t what they need right now.
