Newcastle United defender Davide Santon could well be on his way out of St James’ Park in the summer, according to his agent.

TalkSPORT claim that Zenit St Petersburg have held discussions with the player in regards to a summer move but Newcastle are expected to hold out for a mega price on their number one full back.

Santon has been a virtual ever present this season in the Toon side and has started to justify his £5.3million price tag that will need to be nearly doubled if owner Mike Ashley is to contemplate selling the 22 year old.

The Italian international was at fault for one of Benfica’s goals in Newcastle’s Europa League defeat in Lisbon on Thursday night but is still showing the sort of form that has attracted attention.

Santon’s agent has confirmed that Zenit have approached him with a view to a summer move but competition from Spain and Italy are set to join the race if the left back becomes available.

"We have spoken several times with Zenit about Santon, but he is focused on the end of the season with Newcastle,” his agent Renzo Contratto said in Izvestia.ru.

"I do not know what will happen in the summer, but I believe the club will not let him go for less than a certain amount."
