Newcastle ace wants to stay

Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini has moved to dispel rumours about his future by claiming that he is happy with the Magpies.

The Argentine ace’s time at the club has been the subject of much doubt over the course of 2013, with rumours suggesting that he has been keen to move back to his homeland.

Despite such issues, Newcastle have held firm to keep the centre-back, who has developed into one of Alan Pardew’s most dependable performers.

Now the curly-haired South American says that he is settled on Tyneside and that he is prepared to honour his contract at St James’ Park.

“At the beginning of the year, due to some personal problems, I had the chance to return to Argentina,” Coloccini told The Express.

“It was spoken about playing in San Lorenzo because I support that team. I am currently very happy at Newcastle – I have three more years on my contract.

“While I keep on being useful for my team on the pitch, I will keep on playing.”

Coloccini was heavily linked with a move to San Lorenzo, but a switch was said to be dependent on Newcastle cutting his contract short.

The 31-year-old has been a Toon player since 2008, and stuck with the club through their drop into the second tier.
