Newcastle agree transfer fee

Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is set to make Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis his first major signing of the summer, as reported by ITV Sport.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed the deal is set to be completed in the next 48 hours after the French club accepted the Geordies third offer of around £7.5million.

Pardew has been desperate to add new faces to his depleted squad and especially strikers as Papiss Cisse’s future with the club is still unclear.

Joe Kinnear has come in to the club this summer to deal with all transfer dealings and it seems he has his first man with two weeks to go until the start of the season.

Aulas said in quotes on French website Journal du Dimanche: “We have accepted the proposal of Newcastle, which is eight million euros, plus two million bonus.

“The agreement is now linked to the acceptance of agents’ fees. I understand that the problem is in the amount and manner of payment of commissions.

“There are several people involved in the operation, which complicates the negotiations. But I am hopeful that things will be resolved within 24 or 48 hours.”
