Newcastle already plotting summer move to beat Leicester to £10m star

Newcastle are already planning a summer move for Ajax’s Mitchell Dijks, even though Rafa Benitez has just 10 games to save the club from relegation, according to reports from De Telegraaf.

The Spaniard has been parachuted in at St James’ Park with the Magpies sitting in 19th, and faces an immediate baptism of fire with table-topping Leicester on the agenda for tonight before a North East Derby against Sunderland on Sunday.

However, reports claim that the club are already looking at potential transfer targets for the looming off-season, with Dijks wanted.

The 6ft. 4” left-back – who can also play in a central defensive position – has been capped at U-21 level by the Netherlands and has recently been aligned with a £10m move to Leicester.

However, Newcastle’s interest is thought to be more concrete, which could see them slip in ahead of the Foxes for the towering defender.

Dijks only signed for Ajax last summer from Willem II, whom he joined from the Amsterdam ArenA outfit the previous year after struggling to break into the first-team.

Any move would surely hinge on Newcastle staying in the Premier League.
