Newcastle are already laying the foundations for a future with Rafael Benitez, as the Magpies are set to make changes to their academy coaching staff, just as the gaffer requested.
Under-18’s manager Dave Watson will leave Newcastle at the end of the season, Lee Ryder of Chronicle Live reports.

Other reports have added to the claims, with Sun Sport’s David Coverdale claiming this could be one of multiple changes at the club’s academy this summer.

This should be music to the ears of Newcastle fans, because it’s exactly what Benitez wants.
The Spaniard has spoken recently about his desire to improve the academy, which suggests he’s in it for the long haul, and the fact that the club are now following through with significant changes is a great sign.

Mike Ashley takes plenty of stick on Tyneside and deservedly so, but he has just taken the first step towards securing Benitez long-term, and Newcastle fans may be forced to think differently about the man in charge if he can pull it off.
