Newcastle legends Rob Lee and John Beresford have urged ailing Magpies boss Steve McClaren to find a new captain amid their relegation battle, according to the Daily Express.
The Toon Army have won just twice under McClaren and are above only basement side Aston Villa in the table heading into a tough Christmas period.
High flying Liverpool visit the North East tomorrow before a trip to Tottenham next week, who have not lost since August.
There had been suggestions of a training ground bust up and the club’s Benton base following the dire capitulation against Leicester, involving McClaren and a few key players.
Current skipper Fabricio Coloccini has come under scrutiny and is commitment to the cause has been called into question over recent weeks.
Now, two members of the entertaining mid-90s side at St James. Park have urged the former England coach to find a new leader.
‘I don’t see Coloccini as a leader – he doesn’t lead people or inspire people”, revealed former midfielder Rob Lee.
“I don’t see that sort of togetherness now. They are a team of individuals’, added ex-goalscorer Beresford.
