Newcastle call for Sterry to replace Yedlin

Newcastle United opened their 2018-19 Premier League campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.

It would be fair to say that it was a difficult summer transfer window for the Magpies, but new signings did arrive, and there was plenty for the club’s supporters to be positive about despite the defeat to Tottenham.

There is concern over DeAndre Yedlin, however, with the American picking up a knee problem during the league affair.

It is still unclear just how long the right-back will spend on the sidelines, but the manner of his exit suggested that Yedlin will be unavailable for some time.

Javier Manquillo is the obvious choice to come into the XI, but the Newcastle fans have offered up an alternative solution by placing Jamie Sterry’s name in the hat.

Sterry has only made three first-team appearances for Newcastle, and is not exactly a spring chicken at the age of 22.

The academy product could now be thrust into action, however, and the club’s fans would certainly be behind his inclusion, as shown by the tweets below:
