Newcastle’s controversial owner Mike Ashley is ready to invest heavily in the club’s first-team squad this summer, with Danny Ings, Saido Berahino, Andre Ayew and Aleksandar Mitrovic all on his agenda, according to reports from The Express.
The Magpies’ owner is known for his frugal financial approach to the running the North East outfit, which has garnered big profits over the past few years.
However, with the Premier League’s new TV deal set to kick in, Ashley is worried that players’ values will skyrocket in the coming years, and is ready to beat the trend this summer.
As a result he’s told chief scout Graham Carr to come up with a list of targets, and it’s reported that Berahino, Ings, Ayew and Mitrovic all feature.
The latter, who plays for Anderlecht, is dubbed one of Europe’s most promising strikers and has been likened to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Berahino has enjoyed a fantastic breakthrough season at West Brom, while Ings is set to become a free agent when his Burnley contract expires in a few months’ time.
Ayew is also due to be a summer freebie with his deal at Marseille edging towards expiry.
