Newcastle close to loan deal for Jordan Lukaku, fans react

As reported by The Chronicle, Newcastle have nearly completed their first piece of January business with a loan deal for Lazio’s Jordan Lukaku – brother of Manchester United striker, Romelu.

The Belgian is seen as an option at left-back for Rafa Benitez, who has no depth beyond Paul Dummett in that role, and his pace and strength will surely be a huge asset for a Magpies side lacking any counter-attacking threat.

By the sounds of it, the past few weeks have been a headache for Benitez, who now seems to be at his wits end after minimal backing in the transfer window – the Spaniard had been tipped to leave this summer over a lack of signings this month and but now he’s got what he wished for.

The ChronicleΒ also claim that a move for Gelson Martins seems dead in the water as the Portuguese winger looks set to join Monaco on loan instead, but there is still time for the St. James’ Park outfit to get a new winger in – the current crop have been disappointing this season, particularly Kenedy.

It’s not all doom and gloom though, as the imminent signing of the versatile Lukaku would add some much-needed depth to the Magpies back-line.

According to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad, the 24-year-old will reportedly be available on a permanent deal for a jaw-dropping Β£19.1m in the summer and, if Newcastle like what they see in the coming months and wish to bring him back to Tyneside, he would become their record signing.
