Newcastle United are edging closer to agreeing a deal for England international Andros Townsend, according to the Chronicle Live.
The Magpies are understood to be locked in negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur over a deal for the 24-year old winger in an effort to bring him to Tyneside.
While Spurs are said to value the player at around £14m, the North East giants are reportedly unwilling to shell out such an amount at the present time.
However, the Evening Standard suggests there could soon be a breakthrough as an offer of an initial six-month deal before an option to buy for £12m in the summer could be agreed.
Toon Army winger Florian Thauvin could then be afforded the chance to cut short his St. James’ Park nightmare by returning to former club Marseille on loan.
The 22-year old French international has failed to convince at all since joining the club for £13m only five months ago.
