Newcastle could do better than Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto

Newcastle United are interested in signing Mainz striker Yoshinori Muto, according to The Daily Mirror.

What’s the story?

The 25-year-old joined the German club in 2015 and has since scored 20 goals in the Bundesliga.

The Japan international, who has been on the bench for their first two World Cup games, is valued at £5.4million on Transfermarkt.

According to the report, Mainz value their striker nearer £14million.

Is he worth it?

Muto clearly does have an eye for goal, but he hasn’t been scoring regularly enough to warrant a £14million move to the Premier League.

Considering he doesn’t start for Japan and has suffered a lot with injuries over the years, Newcastle could better invest the money elsewhere.

If they could negotiate the fee to below £10million then perhaps he could be a useful signing but arguably he still isn’t of the quality that Newcastle need if they want to push on to that next level.
