Newcastle United defender DeAndre Yedlin says he doesn’t expect to keep his place in the team on a consistent basis despite a string of fine performances for the club in recent weeks.

What’s the word, then?

Following the 2-1 win at Preston North End at the weekend, the £5m summer signing told nufc.co.uk that he expects to keep switching with the more experienced Vurnon Anita, despite starting the last three matches for Rafa Benitez’s side.

The Toon scored 11 and conceded just one goal in that time, but the American believes he will share the right-back position with his Dutch team-mate during the course of the campaign.

Yedlin told nufc.co.uk: “You're battling for a place in the team against a guy like Vurnon with so much experience, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can from him, so I'm sure that we'll keep switching starts.”

Would he really be dropped after impressing?

Well, we know that Benitez does like to tinker with his teams, as he showed by making seven changes for the EFL Cup match against Preston North End at St James’ Park last week, before making a further five alterations when Newcastle travelled to Deepdale to face the same opposition in the Championship on Saturday.

Has the chopping and changing affected Newcastle's momentum?

Certainly not. The club are currently on a run of seven straight wins in all competitions and have a large enough squad to be utilised for the different competitions that the team is taking part in.
