Newcastle distance reports with QPR star but yet another French flop could leave

Newcastle United could ship flop midfielder Sylvain Marveaux out of the club, though have played down reports linking them with Charlie Austin, according to the Daily Express.

The Toon Army are thought to be one of a number of Premier League sides chasing the QPR forward who is entering the final six months of his deal at Loftus Road.

Having been linked with a move for the 26-year old former Burnley striker in the summer, the North East giants are understood to have baulked at his reported £15m price tag.

‘I can’t mention names’, revealed Magpies boss Steve McClaren after yesterday’s defeat to Arsenal.

‘We are talking very privately and we are not discussing anything about January, any targets.’

French midfielder Marveaux has flopped on Tyneside since arriving in 2011 as he has struggled for form and fitness following his free transfer from Rennes.

The playmaker is said to be a target for Ligue 1 strugglers Guingamp as they battle relegation, having spent last season on loan with the club.

He has not played a single minute of first-team action for the Toon this term.
