The Magpies spent heavily over the summer to secure a number of talented international players after owner Mike Ashley came under intense fire from supporters for a lack of transfer ambition.
However, under the guidance of new manager Steve McClaren, on-field performances have not been up to scratch, and the North East outfit currently sit in the relegation zone with no wins and only three points from seven games – albeit the 2-2 home draw with Chelsea on Saturday was encouraging.
And it seems that Newcastle are gearing up to make more additions in 2016, with reports claiming that Batshuayi of Marseille is a target.
The Belgium international has recently been linked with Arsenal on the back of his fine form in the south of France – he has netted eight times already this season.
McClaren has options up front, but summer addition Aleksandar Mitrovic is yet to open his scoring account, while Senegalese marksman Papiss Cisse was linked with a move away from Tyneside throughout the last window.
