Newcastle eye Ghanaian ace

Marseille's Andre AyewNewcastle are plotting a move for Marseille winger Andre Ayew, according to reports from The Express.

The Ghanaian international has attracted much attention this summer, with Liverpool believed to be one of a host of clubs interested in his signature.

But, the Magpies are preparing to bypass their rivals with a move for the 23-year-old before the transfer window closes.

Although Marseille have played down talk he could be available, Newcastle are hopeful that they can alter the Ligue 1 club’s stance with £8.5m offer.

Ayew has a £15.5m release clause in his contract, but the French giants are aware that very few sides will be willing to bid that high.

The pacey wide-man himself is believed to be open to a move, and could attempt to force the issue should Newcastle’s interest increase in the coming days.

Ayew is regarded as an important first-team player at Marseille, for whom he featured 35 times last season – netting nine goals in the process.

Inter Milan and Napoli are also rumoured to be keen, but a Premier League switch could be more appealing to the 43-time Ghana international.

Newcastle have a relatively successful track record in recruiting players from France, with a number of their key men – including Yohan Cabaye – having moved to the North East from the nation’s top tier.

Newcastle fans, is Andre Ayew the right man for your side?
