Newcastle eyeing January Bundesliga double move to save season

Newcastle are eyeing moves for Schalke and Wolfsburg pair Joel Matip and Robin Knoche ahead of the January transfer window, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The Magpies have endured a woeful start to the 2015/16 campaign in which they’ve picked up just two points from six games, leaving them firmly embedded in the relegation zone – only bitter rivals Sunderland’s inferior goal difference is keeping them from the foot of the table.

These performances have come in spite of the club investing heavily during the last window to sign players such as Chancel Mbemba, Florian Thauvin, Georginio Wijnaldum and Aleksandar Mitrovic, but reports claim that the Tynesiders are willing to make more moves this winter.
