Newcastle face fight to keep midfield star

Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle)Newcastle’s hopes of keeping Yohan Cabaye at St James’ Park beyond January have taken a blow, with Italian giants Roma keen on the midfielder, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The French international was heavily linked with a move away from the Magpies over the summer, with Arsenal having had a £10m bid rejected.

Despite remaining a Newcastle player Cabaye’s future is still uncertain, with the player himself thought to be open to a big move.

Roma – who currently lead the Serie A table – have been impressed by the 27-year-old’s displays so far this term, and are keen to entice him to the Stadio Olimpico once the transfer window opens.

I Giallorossi boss Rudi Garcia worked with the playmaker during their time at Lille and is known to be a fan of his abilities.

Arsenal are still thought to be monitoring the situation, with Arsene Wenger believed to be looking at further bolstering his options as he looks to keep his side in the title race.

As well as the Gunners and Roma, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are also rumoured to be keen.

Alan Pardew is desperate to keep his midfield ace, but the club may sell if a lucrative offer is received.
