Newcastle have turned things around under Steve Bruce recently but there are still weaknesses in the squad and the injury to Allan Saint-Maximin could damage their already poor attack.

The Magpies have scored just ten goals from open play in 16 league games this season, with the strikers in the squad managing just two goals between them, yet that doesn't seem to concern anyone at the club.

It is surprising that Bruce isn't trying to pressure the board to spend more in January, as Lee Charnley has come out and stated that he is making no promises in regard to reinforcements, recalling Bruce's earlier assertion that he is happy with the players already at his disposal.

Who the heck is that?! Can you name all 25 of these obscure Liverpool signings...

Fans are unhappy with the position the club are taking, as it once again indicates that Mike Ashley isn't willing to spend, even though Joelinton's performances are declining and Miguel Almiron is still yet to break his goal duck.

In defence of the board, they splashed out £40m on Joelinton in the summer and have been repaid by just one goal, and given January can often prove a tricky time to uncover quality players, their hesitation is understandable.

Despite that, there is a real lack of goals in the squad and the players currently at Bruce's disposal look unlikely to change that, so the Magpies' boss should be seeking an addition or two.

The fact that he seemingly isn't has to be a concern, and it is a fact which has frustrated a few Newcastle fans, some of whom believe he is responsible for the club's lack of activity.

However, there is one player who has shown in recent games that he could have a valuable role to play, and that may be why Bruce isn't too concerned about making signings.
