Newcastle fans have been reacting to the news that Islam Slimani could face Huddersfield on Saturday, after the striker played 25 minutes for Algeria on Tuesday night.

Newcastle fans were annoyed last week by the news that Islam Slimani was training with Algeria after not taking part in the Magpies’ warm weather training camp in Spain.

There have been plenty of weird signings at Tyneside in recent years, but perhaps none stranger than the decision to loan out Aleksandar Mitrović and replace him with an injured Premier League outcast.

Slimani struggled for regular minutes at Leicester, and has not even trained properly for Newcastle yet because of a thigh injury.

The 29 year-old striker could be set to make his Newcastle debut on Saturday against Huddersfield though, after coming on as a substitute in Algeria’s friendly with Iran.

Slimani looked understandably sluggish, and was booked mere moments after coming on to the pitch.

Fans have been discussing his return on Twitter, and the responses are overwhelmingly sarcastic. Some of the best reactions can be found below…
