Newcastle fans on Twitter have been riled by some comments from former Sunderland man Sebastian Larsson, who has heaped praise on Steve Bruce.

The Magpies travel to Tottenham’s new stadium for the first time this weekend, and you’d be forgiven for expecting them to get a hiding.

Bruce’s side produced nothing going forward against Arsenal on opening weekend, and were soundly beaten by a very fluid, organised Norwich side last Saturday.

Fluid and organised are probably the two words furthest from describing Newcastle’s performances thus far, but Larsson, who played for the 58 year-old at both Sunderland and Birmingham, believes Bruce will get it right.

"He is a very good man-manager. I felt that I knew what he wanted from me as a player,” he said.

"He has got a lot of experience - not only as a manager in the Premier League and the Championship - but also as a brilliant player.

"I think that definitely helps him be a good man-manager, understanding how players tick in certain situations, and being able to get the best out of them.”

His final comment seems to be the one getting under everyone’s skin though, as he commented: “But definitely he is not a manager who I would say he does not know what he is doing tactically. I would say Steve is a very good tactical manager."

The 34 year-old was a favourite during his time on Wearside for his free-kick wizardry – he has the most free-kick goals on record in the Premier League with 11.

Unsurprisingly though, he is not quite so popular on Tyneside, where fans are fed up of people telling them to respect Bruce, who is yet to earn a single point as boss.
