Lots of Newcastle fans have been reacting to a message from Fabian Schar, who shared his return to Tyneside on Twitter.

For most football clubs, pre-season is a time of optimism ahead of the next campaign, with fans pondering what heights their side can reach that year with new signings and fresh hope.

At Newcastle though, there are no new signings, there is no optimism, and there isn’t even a manager.

One bright spot the fans do have though is the return of Schar, who was sensational last season after signing for just £3m last summer.

He won 2.7 aerial duels per game as well as making 2.5 tackles and 2.8 interceptions per game in his debut campaign on Tyneside, per Whoscored.

The 27 year-old is also the club’s top scorer from last year now that Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez have left, and the fans are begging him not to follow the pair out the door after he sent a message to the Toon Army.

“Back on track,” said the Switzerland international as he checked back in for pre-season training, and the Twitter reactions are begging him to stay amidst the current chaos at St. James’ Park…
