Newcastle fans are completely split over their latest transfer move, as the club is set to sign Ki Sung-yueng for free this summer, providing he receives the appropriate visa.

The Chronicle reported Newcastle holding talks with South Korea’s captain on Friday, and the Swansea man was announced by the club within a matter of hours.

He will become the Magpies' second summer signing after goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, signing an initial two-year deal.

The 29 year-old, who has an incredible 104 caps for his country, will be out of contract this summer, after spending five seasons in South Wales.

Newcastle fans are of course desperate for some summer spending, and the free signing of an ex-Sunderland player isn’t exactly doing a lot to quench the transfer thirst of some fans.

Ki probably will not dislodge Mo Diame or Jonjo Shelvey from the starting eleven, and the Swansea midfielder scored just twice last season.

However, plenty of other fans are seeing the value in the move, adding depth to the midfield and hopefully saving money to invest in other areas.

Rafael Benitez is desperate for a new number nine and some firepower on the wings this summer, and owner Mike Ashley is extremely unlikely to splash out on multiple big deals, so the bargain move for Ki could be a really shrewd signing.
