Life is pretty good for Newcastle fans right now, and they’ve been mercilessly mocking Sunderland after Birmingham’s Tuesday night win left the Black Cats eight points adrift of Championship safety.

As if winning three consecutive home games to all but ensure Premier League survival wasn’t enough, Newcastle fans got the cherry on the cake last night as Birmingham’s win probably relegated Sunderland.

Chris Coleman’s side won 4-1 at Derby County on Friday night, breathing new life into their hopes of another great escape.

A 3-1 home loss to Sheffield Wednesday left them on the edge though, and Birmingham’s 1-0 win away at Bolton on Tuesday has pushed them off the cliff.

Newcastle fans are no doubt still a little aggravated by Sunderland fans’ “six in a row” chants, referring to the Black Cats’ six consecutive derby wins from 2013 to 2015.

While they certainly haven’t forgotten about the run of derby defeats, the Toon Army are rubbing it in about Sunderland’s sorry state.
