According to Record, Newcastle United are one of a number of clubs closely monitoring the development of Benfica goalkeeper Odisseas Vlachodimos.

The 24-year-old only joined Benfica from Panathinaikos during the summer, but appears to have made a big impression in the early weeks of the campaign.

Newcastle are said to be closely watching the stopper, although a host of major European clubs - including Bayern Munich and Manchester United - are also in the hunt.

The Magpies are extremely well-stocked in the goalkeeping department, however, with Martin Dubravka, Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman all available.

The Newcastle fans have been reacting to the transfer speculation on social media, and it would be fair to say that many are confused.

Rafael Benitez's side have really struggled in the Premier League this season, but Dubravka has been one of their better players, and it does seem a touch odd that they are monitoring a player who could cost upwards of £45m.
