Newcastle fans are furious about the latest transfer links, as reports suggest Tottenham have joined the race for Jamaal Lascelles and could even pay £45m to land the 24 year-old.
According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham have joined Chelsea in the race for Lascelles, and fans are all in total agreement that the colossal captain cannot leave for any price.
The report claims Chelsea have identified Lascelles as a “key target” to strengthen their defence this summer, but now Spurs are eyeing a swoop as well, as they prepare for life without Toby Alderweireld.
Lascelles is being targeted as a direct replacement for the big Belgian, as Mauricio Pochettino looks to replace some of the leadership they will lose if Alderweireld goes.
Tottenham look set to miss out on Ajax wonderkid Matthijs de Ligt, which is why they have turned their attention to Lascelles, but Newcastle fans are absolutely desperate to keep hold of the towering defender.
The skipper has been nothing short of sensational in the last 18 months or so, and he is absolutely integral to the Magpies’ growth.
You can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below, with plenty of suggestions that the reported £45m price is too low…
45 million is to low. He is as good a VVD and is only 24. No matter the price I doubt very much it would be reinvested back into the squad. Could be testing times for Rafa.

24 year old. Born leader, more than any other English player currently. Never loses when getting up for a header. Brings confidence and stability to our team. They can shove there £45m

I’m officially done if we sell him. Selling Lascelles at this stage signals an immense lack of ambition.

I don’t think we can afford to sell him unless at a ridiculous price. When he doesnt play we look shaky, how would we replace him with our snail pace owner?

So he’s off then.

Just like Andy Carroll years ago. Soon as anything comes in about £40m he will be forced out
