According to a report in the Daily Star, Leicester City will try to sign Rafael Benitez this summer, but Newcastle fans are not having it.

As Claude Puel trudged off the pitch after Leicester’s 5-0 hiding from Crystal Palace this weekend, the rumour mill began to fuel up, and the Daily Star claim the Foxes have identified Rafa Benitez as Puel’s successor.

According to the report, dressing room unrest has put Puel’s Leicester future in serious doubt, and the 5-0 hammering at Crystal Palace on Saturday certainly wouldn’t have helped.

The Foxes have ambitious targets for next season, hoping the right manager with considerable financial backing can put them in the race for the top six.

Newcastle have of course turned their season around under the guidance of Benitez, and fans are not very happy with the exit links.

Mike Ashley takes plenty of flak from Newcastle fans for his frugal transfer activity, and the Magpies’ owner will surely be looking to tie Benitez to a new long-term deal.

Some fans are doubting the validity of the rumours, while others are fearing the worst as they know Ashley will likely not top an external bid.
