Reports in Turkey claim Newcastle could be offered former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel this summer, but Newcastle fans are not too fond of the links.

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, Fenerbahce defender Martin Skrtel will be “offered” to Newcastle this summer.

The Slovakian international has been heavily linked to a reunion with Steven Gerrard at Rangers, but is thought to be keen a move back to the Premier League.

Skrtel made nearly 250 Premier League appearances for Liverpool, grabbing 16 goals along the way, including a brace in that historic 5-1 win against Arsenal in 2014.

The towering defender is best known for pulling shirts and kicking strikers, but he certainly has the experience and nous to make a positive impact on the Newcastle squad.

Despite earning 97 Slovakia caps though, fans aren’t too fond of the links, insisting they don’t need the defender after the emergence of the partnership of Jamaal Lascelles and Florian Lejeune.
